Purrington has a surprising number of the attributes of a decent striker in his toolkit. Wonder if he played there in his youth

A wonderful afternoon, which we totally dominated and the biggest Valley win I can recall since we tonked Rochdale 4-0 in our last league fixture of 2018/19. 6 or  7-0  would not have flattered us on the balance of play.

Every man jack, but a particular shout out to Dobson - who seemed to pick up more second balls than the remaining 21 players combined - Ben Purrington, who had a horse of a game and DJ, who demonstrated his range of crossing prowess with both feet.

Tuesday against Rotherham will be a tougher test but it is a game that we can approach with confidence, rather than trepidation, given the extraordinary transformation that  Jacko has achieved with this group of players.

Just got in after a fucking awful journey home, stuck in traffic in Whitechapel with armed old bill in unmarked cars all over the place with blues and twos going!
5 hours to get back, but what a day, a superb performance from the whole team, Donny never got a look in! It was like the team were 11 new players!! Sat with @TCE and surrounded by players not in today's squad along with players families and just in front of us was Rob Lee and his Mrs, also got to meet Tracey Leaburn, lovely day, lovely people, fantastic performance!!
We're on our way back, JJ following Curbs, Powell and Bowyer?
Just wanted to add 2 extra things-:
We could've had 7 or 8 and it wouldn't have flattered us.
Dobson was immense and we need to buy Lee!

What a difference to how we played under Adkins. Give the job to Jacko permanently now.
He is doing great. But giving a manager a job on the bounce is not good business. If it does not work out it will be three managers TS has to pay off out the door. Let’s see how the rest of the season plays out. If we are playing good ball after Christmas then we will truly know. It’s not like Newcastle are coming after him right now. We have time and we should use it.
I wasn't being completely serious. Was just commenting on how different it seems with Jackson in charge. If it continues like this then it is his job to lose. I'm not naïve enough to expect or demand he gets it after 2 games.

Hopefully Leko's injury isn't too serious. It didn't look it and saw him pop a painkiller but they decided not to risk it.

The replacements in the forward line seems to be:

    Leko - DJ - CBT
    Washington - Davison
    Lee - Kirk

Lets hope Kirk offers something when makes a return.

  • Very pleased to escape my losing streak since I've been back in the UK. Up to today 4 games seen, 4 defeats. Today 4 goals.

The team looked fitter, looked like they wanted to play and no fannying around passing around the back four and keeper.

Keep this up and we'll be moving up that table.
  • Surely nobody has come up with this but, that was a comfortable home win.
    Right. 4-0 😀

Fantastic afternoon, great atmosphere and frankly a great tonic following some of the dire performances we have witnessed this season.

Not normally one for noting individual performances when the team plays well but for two games in a row Dobson was outstanding, played his role to absolute perfection today.

As an aside, why does his running style remind me of Norman Wisdom?!
  • Magnificent performance and there’s still more to come from us I’m sure we can improve.  Rotherham will see whether we have to start up the engines on HMS piss the league again .

All been said really , so on to what hasn’t , how apart from Simonsen has no one mentioned big fat, top off, moonie boy , he was off his tits
goading some fella in the east stand who got harshly removed by half a dozen stewards when surely moving him on to another seat in the  stand would have been better .
they were just comparing Nescafé waves at each other .
the Donny fan was allowed to stay and moonie’d as he walked away and then his 2 minute moonie after we were awarded a penalty
eventually they got him out and led him round the edge of the pitch , he hurdled the advertising boarding and entered the pitch for a nano but was shattered and give up , what a lunatic .

good turnout for Donny and they sung pretty decent before we took their pants down .

He does look like he’s running on hot coals!!!!, as long as he doesn’t start falling over like Norman wisdom!!🤣

Purrington's header being underrated. Looking at the highlights, it was a lot further out than it felt in real time. Well done to his attacking intent and not dwelling on a previous miss by playing extra safe.

I didn’t see the game, but wondering what the difference is? Is it just Donny being bad? Is it Jacko tactics? Is it Jacko/player motivation and effort? Either way, looks a great decision to remove NA and give Jacko the chance. Confidence hopefully high after these results and belief in Jacko and what he’s asking of them.
I wasn't at the game either, but from the games I have seen so far this season, my suspicion is it's tactical, both in terms of player choice and formation. Having 2 up front means Stockley is going to be a lot less isolated, so we've got more chance of picking up the second ball when it gets pumped up front. Combine that with the amount of pressing from the front that Washington does, and that means the midfield area is going to be under less pressure, and consequently able to support the defence a bit more?

Crazy how this thread is only 5 pages in at 9.30pm on a sat eve compared to what Lincoln probably was by the same time 2 weeks ago
Probably all still down the pub celebrating.
  • Thought it was quite perceptive of Richie Wellens to pick up on the atmosphere today.

“You come to a club like this that have had a massive transition in the last seven days and you can feel it in the ground"

Not so perceptive on Stockley , but well observed just the same.

“Stockley will have a headache tonight because he’s won every single header in both boxes and from every ball up to him. He’s had an easy ride".

Starting to play really well now. We totally dominated today and stopped Donny from playing from the get go. I don't think we should underestimate the influence that Jacko had on today's performance. Yes, they looked bad but it was how we played that made them look so bad. They'd given up after about 65 minutes and seemed to want to just finish and go home.
Hopefully this continues with Jacko. He has hugely impressed so far.

The headline writers didn’t get their Jackson 5 - but the team performance was 4 times better than it was under Adkins.
Well done to Jacko, big Jace, and the lads.
4-0 in front of 16k+ fans. It doesn’t get much better than that.
    Pearce MOM for me.
    Big test on Tuesday.

Sounds very much like Dobson, Gilbey and Lee are the 3 to play in midfield.
  • It never happens like this. Kids for a quid match, and we play brilliantly. We've probably gained 100 new fans today
  • Today showed how much we've been underperforming this season. Yes Donny were pathetic, but that's the sort of performance we should have been putting out, far more regularly. Under Adkins we were a bottom 4 side, but with the players in our squad that was a massive failure, whether tactically or from a motivationally.

An all round good performance, hard work and determination, but also a clear game plan and a real cutting edge up front. Hard to pick a MoM as it was such a good team performance

    I agree.

Doncaster had only lost 2 league games this season in the league before today  by more than two goals.

Yes, funny that. Who would have thought that scoring goals & goal difference might make a difference at the end of the season.

Last season we missed out on the play offs because of GD. The season before we got relegated because of the lack of a goal - if, after the restart in June 2020, we had scored just 1 extra goal (turning a 1-0 defeat (Millwall for example) into a draw or a draw into a win) then the extra point would have kept us up.

I despair sometimes, I really do.

I was only reminded once out of the ground & heading for the car that that was my first win of the season. I missed the Crewe match & the other 2 wins were (long) away trips.

Before today I had seen 5 defeats & 3 draws.

That's it, you're definitely on a wind up.

We win 4-0 and you're seriously moaning that we didn't score more?

    I'm not having it.

Thank you Jacko.  A really committed statement of intent.

I watched that on Day 3 of my 21-day compulsory hotel quarantine in Hong Kong.

If we'd lost I might have thrown myself out of the 23rd floor window, if it wasn't sealed shut of course.

And my fourth COVID PCR test in four days was negative, so it's all good.

Roll on 2.45am on Wednesday morning for victory over Rotherham.

    18 days and counting down.

Doncaster played some nice football. We didn't dominate possesion as the scoreline would maybe suggest. Defensively they were us under Adkins.

The team was set up 352 again, sometimes it morphed a bit but the difference is that Purrington and Leko/Jayesimi were playing higher up the pitch. The high press then works as you're getting a massive presence in midfield higher up the pitch chases everything down.

The players are now playing as a team. They are playing under clear instructions from what I can see and have morphed from a rag tag of individuals into a team.

Jayesimi (and yeah Ive probably spelled it wrong) isn't a Leko by any means, however when he was involved offensively his crossing was sublime. He worked much harder at his defensive side but could have been a bit more involved.....something Jacko said they had been working on in training.

At this rate I don't really see any room for Kirk, and CBT is limited anyway....great when involved but often drifts out of the game and he doesn't defend.

At least three goal line clearances, a couple of glaring misses and hitting the woodwork, says we could have run up a cricket score.

Same players.....different manager, completely set up to get the best out of the players we have.
Sterner test's will come but defending as a unit is being drummed into the squad.
