This was possibly the worst performance I have seen in my 63 years watching Charlton. To a man, they were clueless. That was a relegation performance, period. Many of those in a red shirt today are stealing a living - at our expense. One change Jackson must make for Tuesday is to restore Pearce to the team as captain. He has his limitations, but he will play with passion, and with pride in wearing the shirt, something which cannot be said of the likes of Matthews, Leko, Clare, Lee and Gilbey. Today, I was ashamed to be a Charlton supporter.
Painful to say but genuinely think we are at the stage when anything except Leko playing up front is a bonus. He has shown nothing to believe he can play up front. Whatever happens between now and the end of the season Leko cannot play up front. Would prefer us to not play with a striker than Leko up top. Genuinely offers nothing.
Going to produce nothing if you play the ball to him in the same way as you would feed Stockley - just the same as if you played the ball over the back and asked Stockley to sprint to it - it’s not going to work. need to play to your strengths on the day.

We had Burstow on the bench. A player that a Premiership team think worthy of a contract & parted with £1.6m+ for his services. But we thought Leko was a better bet to play the striker role.
I think I've figured out what my problem is with Jackson's methods at the moment, and it's that he keeps getting away with short-term tweaks and then thinking that they're they'll work forever. The first time we set up in the 3-5-2 it was a surprise, the players even warmed up in a defensive 4 to throw the opposition off. Then it became clear Matthews was playing RCB and pulling across to RB and Leko was playing high up. It bamboozled the opposition and we won. Then it worked for a while longer until it got figured out and now we're struggling because the out of position players are getting shown up long-term. Sticking Clare in a CB was a good choice while we were short of players and he's done well, but now we've got actual specialists back he should drop out. Same with playing a winger at wing-back, it works as a surprise or for a couple of games but it's not a long-term solution. He doesn't seem to be able to see that though and it's starting to hurt us badly as players who just don't suit those roles are being targeted and punished. It worries me that nothing seems to be changing, only getting more dug in. We'll get results here and there playing like this but we'll never develop consistency

Clare at RCB in a three works because you want your Center backs to be able to distribute and get forward like Sheff Utd.
With a back three of Lavelle, Innis and Pearce you are back to launching it again.
As I said elsewhere, we need to go to a back four. I said 4-3-3 would be ideal; we have numerous players (Leko, CBT, DJ, Lee) who would LOVE to play wing forward. Unshackle our forward players. They're being made to look bad by their restrictions. I don't care if that formation makes us a bit looser; we couldn't be much looser than we were today. Of course, it would also require a midfield three that consists of Dobson, Morgan and someone who actually fucking does anything at all
Did not enjoy that one bit. Famewo, Lavelle, Pearce on bench, yet Purrington plays left sided CB. WTAF? Will take a break on Tuesday and come back in a fortnight.
Luckily there was a storm yesterday which created havoc with a fence and trees in my garden added to this it was cold today. These things gave me an easy excuse for not attending today’s game.

Clare in a three works to a point. Yes, he can play out, he's athletic and he can tackle. But he's not a centre back. It's no accident that a lot of goals have come down his side in the past few games, and that's because in the end it's infinitely more important that the centre back can stop goals coming in than bring the ball forward. Sheffield United incidentally are currently 6th in the Championship, because when Premier League teams figured out what they were doing and how to stop it, suddenly it was Jack O'Connell, Chris Basham and John Egan against vastly superior players, and they got chucked out of the league at lightspeed. Inniss can actually play a bit, and plays quite comfortably in the RCB position when Pearce plays and sits in the middle. Today we didn't need Clare to get forward, we needed to keep the bloody ball out of the net because there was nothing up front to hold the ball. Instead we sent out an out of form centre mid and a left back to stop a good team. I would have been delighted with launching it today if we'd managed to keep the ball from going into our net four times.

4-3-3 didn't work brilliantly earlier in the season. I think we've just got to accept that it's the players not the system that's the problem.

That was without Aneke as a focal point, or Fraser pulling strings. Worth another shot I reckon
Is TS son in charge of player recruitment, if so what is his qualification/ Pro game insight, or am I missing something?
The signings in January everyone seemed happy with. Jackson takes a large percentage of the blame for today’s defeat with that ludicrous defensive setup
What a shower of shit. I left when the 3rd goal went in, it was too depressing. There were another 100 exiting at the same time and The Oak was pretty full (presumably loads left at HT).
Several different lineups on the match feed, which i only scanned, now im halfway through the post match comments but still not clear what the formation actually was.

Same here Covered. When people like me start leaving early things need to change. I've never even considered doing that before today but I did it without the slightest thought or regret. I'm not bothering Tues either....because it actually isn't worth the hassle.
I don’t like Robbo, but tactically he has years over JJ. Most obvious was after our good opening, Taylor sat down with a mysterious ‘injury’ and while the ref was checking if he needed treatment, the whole team went over to the bench and got new instructions. After that there was only one team in it
Didn’t make match day squad and got splinters on the bench .
Just pointless fluff in the transfer window. Unless....we are taking a look at them with a view to signing them? Fuck it...just put them both in and see what they are made of.
