Just Stop Oil protestors.....

Whatever happens people complain.Gribbo said:
So you don't think protests can be totally misdirected? You either 100% agree with every aspect of any protest, or sit indoors.SELR_addicks said:People will never support protests.
Every protest is always 'done in the wrong way'
The only acceptable protest is to sit indoors and say nothing according to the public.
I'm off to glue myself to the gates of the local garden center, in protest of the mistreatment of retired Gurkhas by the British government. Hopefully you're taking part, or you obviously disagree with sentiment and think sitting indoors is gonna change things....
Feel free to dig up the BLM thread to see what a simple knee on the ground leads to. Complaints upon complaints. Striking? More complaints. There's nothing people can do that will satisfy the public.

Take that to its logical conclusion for other recent campaigns.ME14addick said:Instead of complaining about JSO protesters on here, why not write to your MP and tell them to stop new licences being issued for oil fields that will take many years to come onstream, so will have no impact on prices or energy security. Ask them to increase renewables instead, which are cheaper and much quicker to get going.
Take away the cause of the protests and you take away the need for protests.
- All hard drugs would be legal.
- Fox hunting would be legal.
- The UK would still be in the EU.
I think we'd all agree that none of these are desired outcomes.2 -

Is this a serious suggestion? I think fair play to them, getting a valid point across. And always happy to see people using there right to protest1

Missing the point of the objections to the protests, despite several people explaining it.
For clarification, disliking the manner of the protests doesn't equate to being content with the direction of climate travel.
In most cases, it is because the protests are not going to do the job and likely to be counter productive. I would guess that many people critising them admire their passion but wouldn't consider joining forces because of the tactics.

What do you think will make the Government change its mind and stop issuing new licences?TellyTubby said:

Which is why I suggested contacting your MP, if millions do that it might just get through, especially with a Government that is desperate for votes.O-Randy-Hunt said:

JSO protesters have moved on from the actions you mention, yet still they are being criticised. It seems that a lot of people are saying that they believe that Climate Change is a problem, but won't do anything about it. Better to get behind their cause than making childish comments about their appearance.

Their goal is specifically to stop the government issuing new licenses to oil & gas exploration companies and opening a coal mine. The incoming Labour government have committed to their aims, so it would seem that their goal is achievable to me, although later than they would like and assuming it isn't reneged on.TellyTubby said:

How might the protests be counter productive? More licenses issued than had the protests not happened I presume?

We have a Government that is about to ditch its promises on Climate Change and issue new licences for oil and gas exploration, this mustn't happen and people are risking being put in prison by a Government that has removed the right to peaceful protest. We're becoming more like Russia every day.6

The Tories have done a huge amount of damage to the environment whilst making many false claims. They are the current Government and they will never stop their lies and damage to the environment all the time there seems to be an overwhelming majority of voters put off the cause by the protests.swordfish said:
